Hotel NAJ CASA HOLBOX
Central yet still quiet (from about €80/night) – very clean, stylishly furnished rooms and a truly friendly team, a clear recommendation for Holbox.
A car-free island in northern Yucatán, with powdery white sand, a peaceful atmosphere, nighttime bioluminescence and the chance to snorkel with whale sharks in season.

Also centrally located, but despite its nice design I'd rather advise against it, several issues bothered me during my stay.
At the western end of the island, especially lovely for quiet evenings – after dark the water glows there thanks to bioluminescence.
The main beach right in front of the center offers glass-clear water, shallow lagoons and beach bars with loungers.
In the east, a hidden gem for nature lovers, with a bit of luck you can spot flamingos here – though there are no restaurants, so it's best to bring your own snacks.
My absolute favorite breakfast spot in all of Mexico, with lovingly decorated smoothie bowls and fresh avocado toast – best to come early, it fills up quickly.
For a snack in between, I had empanadas from here almost daily, whether from the bakery or straight from the vendors on the beach.
In the evening a walk across the main square is worthwhile, where food stalls serve up Mexican street food.
By kayak this was one of the most memorable experiences of the whole trip for me, gliding through shimmering, blue-glowing water in the dark feels almost magical (approx. 300–500 MXN per person).
A trip to Isla Pasión, Isla Pájaros (bird watching) and the Yalahau cenote is also worthwhile.
A calm and close-to-nature way to explore the island.
A golf cart is the easiest way to explore the island's unpaved sandy roads.
