Boracay

Boracay, a small island in the western Visayas, lies about 315 kilometers south of Manila and covers just 10.32 square kilometers. Despite its modest size, Boracay is world-famous, above all for its brilliant white sand beaches and the crystal-clear water of the Pacific, which looks almost too good to be real. The island is divided into three main areas, the Stations: Station 1 is luxurious, quiet and exclusive, with upscale resorts and fine restaurants. Station 2 is the buzzing heart of Boracay, with lively nightlife, plenty of restaurants and shopping. Station 3 is a bit calmer and more relaxed, ideal for anyone who prefers a more peaceful setting without being far from the action.

Getting to Boracay

From Cebu, we opted for a flight, quick and easy at just one hour of travel time, for €63 per person including baggage. Alternatives like the ferry via Iloilo and Caticlan would have been possible, but require long transfers and are riskier in unpredictable weather. The flight left us with more time for the paradise beaches.

Accommodation on Boracay

Villa Caemilla Beach Boutique Hotel

Great location right on the beach in Zone 3, €109 for 2 nights including breakfast, good value for money. The staff were exceptionally hospitable, and the property impressed with its beauty and direct beach location. On top of that, relaxing massage offers, a happy hour for cocktails, and homemade cookies delivered to the room in the evening. The only small drawback: just about five beach loungers available.

Verdict: I can highly recommend this place and would happily stay again.

Mandarin Nest Boracay

Great location right on the beach in Zone 2, €66 for 1 night including breakfast. The staff were exceptionally warm, and the property was impressive, with a lovely ambience, a direct beach location, even two little cupcakes and a jute bag as a welcome gift, plus a rooftop pool with a great view.

Unfortunately, our stay was marked by overwhelming noise, with only about 3 hours of sleep possible: loud music in the hotel bar until 11pm, construction with drilling noise starting at 1am, plus staff walkie-talkie chatter audible in the room.

Verdict: Despite the negative experience, the hotel deserves a chance, especially once construction is finished. It definitely has potential.

The Best Beaches on Boracay

White Beach

One of the most famous beaches in the Philippines, and for good reason. Fine, powder-white sand, crystal-clear water, straight out of a postcard. The four-kilometer stretch offers the perfect mix of relaxation and activity, from sunbathing and swimming to snorkeling and watersports. Along the coast are cozy bars, excellent restaurants and hotels for every taste. Especially magical in the evening, when the sun bathes the sky in glowing color.

White Beach

Diniwid Beach

Just a short walk north of White Beach, with a quieter atmosphere, surrounded by picturesque rock formations and clear water. Ideal for a few relaxed hours away from the crowds.

Diniwid Beach

Puka Shell Beach

In the north of the island, a genuine hidden gem. Known for its unique puka shells and coarser sand, a refreshing alternative to the busy White Beach. Quiet, with a breathtaking natural backdrop and gentle waves, perfect for a relaxed day away from the crowds.

Little Taj Indian Street Kitchen

Modern Indian street food restaurant with a good selection of curries, naans and samosas. Pleasant ambience, friendly service, solid in taste but nothing extraordinary.

Falafel Boracay Food & Beverages

Fresh, crispy, perfectly seasoned falafel, with especially delicious homemade sauces and soft pita bread. Generous portions, good value for money. A must for falafel fans.

The mango sticky rice ice cream was a real highlight, creamy coconut ice cream, sweet ripe mango and sticky rice combined perfectly. Fresh ingredients and lovely presentation make it a special treat.
