Getting to Koh Chang

Van + ferry: the cheaper option, roughly 7 hours, costing €24 per person. Ideal for travelers who want to save money and don't mind a relaxed journey. Flight to Trat + van + ferry: the fastest but pricier option, flight time roughly 1 hour, plus about 3 hours of van and ferry, total cost around €140. Suits anyone who wants to reach the island faster. We chose the first option, more affordable and with a relaxed journey.

Where We Stayed on Koh Chang

Kai Bae Beach Resort

Right on the beach, within a 3-minute walk you reach the main road with plenty of restaurants, cafés, shops and a 7-Eleven. €94 per night, okay value for money. The location right on the beach and close to the lively main road is great. Unfortunately reception and hotel staff weren't as warm as you'd expect from Thailand. At check-in we were simply handed a sheet with the names of hotel guests and asked to tick ourselves off the list, which felt unprofessional. Breakfast left something to be desired in quality and taste, and the room wasn't nicely furnished. On top of that there were no loungers or seating on the hotel beach, even though this was shown in the advertised photos.

Verdict: If we travel to Koh Chang again, we'll choose a different hotel.
