Getting to Koh Phangan

By Lomprayah, booked via 12go Asia, around €17 per person, roughly 1.5 hours. Our trip from Ko Tao was straightforward and well organized, we went with the express ferry. Tip: book the ferry well ahead if you want to be there for full moon time, otherwise you can also book flexibly at short notice. Arrival was smooth, the pier is centrally located with direct access to taxis and scooter rental.

Pura Vida Café

Pure Vegan Heaven

Stylish, inviting setting, though the food unfortunately didn't quite win us over on our visit, no fresh smoothies available and the açaí bowl was watery rather than rich in flavor. Lovely ambience, but not quite what we'd hoped for taste-wise.

The Best Activities on Koh Phangan

Cooking class at Muai's Thai Traditional Cooking Academy

A wonderful way to get up close and personal with Thai cuisine. Personal atmosphere, welcome with herbal tea, individual choice of 4 dishes based on preference (meat, fish, tofu, vegetable), also great for vegetarians or vegans. We made mango sticky rice, fried rice with vegetables, massaman curry and fried spring rolls, a perfect mix. Step by step you learn everything, from papaya or mango salad to coconut milk to the main dishes, finishing with a shared meal.

How it works: meet in Thong Sala with a market tour, choosing ingredients, transfer to the cooking school, herbal tea, preparation, a shared meal with fresh fruit, coconut ice cream, certificate and a gift. Takes about 3.5 hours, costs 1,600 THB for adults, 1,000 THB for children under 12.

Verdict: An authentic, lovingly put-together experience, perfect for getting to know Thai cuisine hands-on.

Ang Thong National Park

An unforgettable natural adventure west of Ko Pha-ngan, with spectacular limestone formations, hidden lagoons and white sand beaches. On a day trip you can kayak, snorkel or hike up to the famous viewpoint on Koh Wua Talap, with a breathtaking view over the island world.
