The Best Beaches on Koh Samui

Chaweng Beach

The island's longest and most famous beach, on the east coast. Soft, white sand, turquoise water, especially calm and peaceful in the mornings with a dreamy sea view. Watersports like stand-up paddling or jet skiing during the day, and in the evening the promenade turns into a lively hub with restaurants, bars and beach clubs. Everything you could want for a classic beach day.

Chaweng Beach

Lamai Beach

South of Chaweng, the island's second-largest beach, a bit quieter and more relaxed. The sand is a little coarser, but the clear water still invites you to swim. Particularly exciting: the famous Hin Ta and Hin Yai rock formations, just a short walk away, a bizarre natural attraction with great photo opportunities. Perfect for anyone looking for a balance of relaxation and a bit of activity.

Lamai Beach

Silver Beach

Also known as Crystal Bay, a small, hidden beach between Chaweng and Lamai that was a genuine insider tip for us. Tucked between large granite boulders and lush vegetation, crystal-clear water, ideal for snorkeling, we even spotted colorful fish without swimming far out. Less crowded, relaxed atmosphere, one of our favorites on Ko Samui.

The Best Activities on Koh Samui

Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai)

In the northeast of the island on Koh Fan, connected to Ko Samui by a causeway. One of the island's best-known landmarks, the golden statue rises a proud 12 meters and is visible from far away. Peaceful atmosphere, great views of the sea and landscape. Especially worthwhile in the morning or evening, when temperatures are more pleasant and the light more impressive.

Tip: Wear appropriate clothing, since it's a religious site.

Big Buddha (Wat Phra Yai)

Na Muang Waterfalls

In the southern interior of the island, easily reached by scooter or taxi. The first waterfall is easy to reach and impresses with cascading water falling into a natural pool, ideal for a quick cool-down. The second, higher waterfall requires a short hike, but it's worth it, the view is spectacular.

Tip: Sturdy shoes for the hike to the second waterfall.

Na Muang Waterfalls

Ang Thong National Marine Park

About 35 km west of Ko Samui, only reachable by boat. An absolute dream: this archipelago of 42 small islands offers breathtaking limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons and untouched beaches. We got to kayak, snorkel and simply enjoy the surroundings, and the climb to a viewpoint with an unforgettable view over the island group was especially impressive.

Tip: Book a guided tour, there are plenty of operators on Ko Samui offering day trips.
